Robinson defeats Grotberg in state senate race

Larry Robinson will remain in office and begin his sixth term as District 24 senator after being re-elected by the citizens of Barnes and Ransom counties Tuesday.
Robinson, a Democrat, defeated Republican challenger Dwight Grotberg by a tally of 3,944 votes to 2,617.
“It’s been a privilege and honor to represent District 24 and I’m looking forward to going back to Bismarck with Phil Mueller and Ralph Metcalf,” Robinson said when reached late Tuesday night.
Mueller and Metcalf, fellow Democrat incumbents vying for the North Dakota House, retained their seats as well with victories over Republican challengers Jon Wagar and Dwight Kiefert.
“We’re looking forward to the incoming session of the legislature and we certainly pledge to work hard to do everything possible and communicate with the folks back home” said Robinson, who has lived in Valley City for 41 years and represented the area as a senator for 20 of those. “We’re certainly glad the long campaign is over and think the people of the district are feeling the same way.”
Robinson took the time Tuesday to thank Grotberg, everyone who voted, election workers and especially the District 24 volunteers, who play an essential role in local races.
“We had a tremendous number of folks who stepped to the plate again and just really, really helped us make a difference,” Robinson said of their volunteers.
Grotberg was disappointed with the loss, but said he and his fellow Republicans made a lot of strides in the community.
