Valley City, who took the East No. 4 seed after a 4-14 record and July 24â€™s 6-5 State-seed-clinching Grafton Regional win over Harvey, upset West No. 1 Beulah, 10-8, in July 30â€™s State opener and vanquished West No. 3 Watford City, 7-4, on Thursday.
Wahpeton defeated Velva, 4-2, for the State crown on Sunday after having beaten Velva, 2-1, in their State opener.
Clay Bassingthwaite two-hit Post 60 on Friday and Wahpeton scored three runs in the first, four in the third and three in the fourth. Jake Miller batted 1-for-1 for Valley City, Ben Baasch 1-for-2.
Nate Albrecht went 3-for-3 with a run and four Wahpeton RBIs.
Chase Carpenter pitched four innings on 104 pitches, 10 hits, eight of 10 runs earned, four walks and six strikeouts.
Velva brought home four runs in the first on Saturday, three in the second and four in both the third and fourth.
Brady Engebretson allowed only two Post 60 hits in five innings against a single Velva error.
Isaac Effertz came away 4-for-5 with four Velva runs and three RBIs, Baasch 1-for-2 with Post 60â€™s second-inning run.
Austen Meyer worked three innings on 76 pitches, 10 hits, six of 11 runs earned and two strikeouts, Jesse Johnson one full inning on 30 pitches, four hits, four earned runs and a walk, Miller 1/3 innings on 12 pitches and a walk.
