VCSU Signs Brothers and 12/7 Local Digest

December 7, 2012

Minnesota brothers Jake and Austin Rambow have signed letters of intent to play sports at Valley City State University, the school announced Thursday.
Austin, a 6-foot-5-inch forward, will play for the mens basketball team, coached by Jeff Kaminsky. Jake will play baseball, signing his letter with VCSU coach Casey Olney.
The two are from Willmar, Minn., and will join the Vikings for the 2013-2014 seasons.
Jake, the older of the two, will be transferring into VCSU from Ridgewater (Minn.) Community College.
As a freshman, he led Ridgewater in games played and was second in runs scored. He also had numerous achievements in high school, including All-Conference and team MVP awards.
“We are excited to add Jake to the Viking program; he is exactly the type of player and person that we are looking for at VCSU," Olney said. "Jake will be a valuable asset as he has the ability to play all three infield positions and a tremendous approach at the plate."
Austin will join the basketball team as a freshman. He is currently in his senior season at Willmar High School.
As a junior, he was second on his team in scoring with 13.8 points per game and also had seven rebounds per game, earning All-Conference honors.
Steve Grove, the boys basketball coach at Willmar, said in the release that Austin is a versitile player that can shoot 3-pointers but also handle the ball and drive to the hoop.
“We are looking forward to having Austin at VCSU. His versatility on both ends of the floor will add a lot to our program," Kaminsky said. "In addition to his scoring and rebounding ability, Austin is a great passer and versatile defender. His character and work ethic make him a success on and off the court.”
