VCSU golf wins title
The Valley City State University golf team had to share the team title at the Dickinson State Spring Invite Wednesday and Thursday at Heart River Golf Course in Dickinson, but it was history making, no less.
The title, which the Vikings shared with Jamestown College, was the team’s first since the sport returned in 2009.
The Vikings had three golfers finish in the top four, including an individual championship by Taylor Henrickson, who shot a 152. He shared the championship with Jamestown’s Jack Bietz.
VCSU’s Ryan Mehus and Ryan LeNoue shot 154 and 155 to take third and fourth.
Henrickson, a senior, also had his first career hole-in-one Wednesday, knocking in an ace on the course’s 8th hole, a 187 yard par 3.
The Valley City State University softball team put together plenty of offense, but couldn’t get a run across in the first day of double headers at home against Dickinson State University.
The Vikings lost 4-0 and 2-0 to the Blue Hawks. The two play a double header today starting at 1 p.m. at VCSU today to finish the four game set.
In the opener, the teams went scoreless for the first three innings until Dickinson put up a single run in both the fourth and fifth inning. The Blue Hawks then had two more in the seventh.
VCSU pitcher Katie McBride threw a complete game with six strikeouts and eight hits. Three of the four runs scored by Dickinson were earned.
The Vikings had six total hits in the game.
The second game turned out to be a pitcher’s dual between McBride and Dickinson’s Taysia Kaufman.
McBride allowed only five hits, Kaufman four, and the only scoring was a two-run third inning for Dickinson.
Neither run was earned.
VCHS softball beats Jamestown
