Three players from the Fargo-Moorhead area will be continuing their baseball careers at Valley City State University next year.
VCSU coach Casey Olney announced Sunday that three players from Minnesota State Community and Technical Collegeâ Bryce Venaas, Anthony Myer, and Cole Honl â have signed with the team and will transfer to VCSU for the 2013 season. All three are originally from the Fargo-Moorhead area.
Bryce Venaas, an alumnus of Fargo South High School alum, went 8-1 in the 2012 season. Venaas had a 1.06 earned run average and opponents hit just .221 against him. His three shutouts and five complete games led the Spartans. He recorded 49 strikeouts in 53 innings.
Venaas was named to the All-Southern Division team, All-Minnesota College Athletic Conference, and was selected for the All-Region XIII team.
âBryce is a big addition to our pitching staff,â Olney said. âHe will be a guy that we can count on to help us win games and solidify the rotation. He had a great season last year and we are very pleased to add a local talent like Bryce to our program.â
Anthony Myer, another Fargo South alum, hit .371 and had 10 doubles while starting at third base for the Spartans. He also had a 2-0 record as a pitcher and had an ERA of just 1.5
âAnthony is a tough and talented infielder and fills a need for us at third base,â Olney said. âHe did a really nice job there last season at MSCTC and we think he will be a great addition both defensively and with the bat.
Cole Honl, a Moorhead native, had an OBP of .403 with two home runs last season for the Spartans and hit .333 in his first season at MSCTC. He played first base, was a designated hitter, and pitched for the Spartans.
âCole is a big athletic young man who brings a lot to the table,â Olney said. âHe is a versatile guy and is excited to help the program any way he can. We are thrilled to get a guy with the combination of tools and size that Cole has.â
