VCPD Officers Will Attend Free Training

March 19, 2013

Valley City Police Chief Fred Thompson is one of the unidentified responders in a hazmat suit during a free training class he attended that was offered by the Center for Domestic Preparedness. The chief is now sending his officers to the same class that will teach them how to deal with hazardous materials and incidents that might occur from them.

Valley City Training Officer Phillip Hatcher was the first officer in the Valley City Police Department to attend free training offered by the Center for Domestic Preparedness in Anniston, Ala.
The CDP is operated by the United States Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency and is the only federally-chartered Weapons of Mass Destruction training facility in the nation.
The hands-on training enables responders to effectively prevent, respond to and recover from real-world incidents involving acts of terrorism and other hazardous materials.
