VCHS Gymnastics Finishes Regular Season

February 11, 2013

The Valley City High School gymnastics team finished the regular season last Thursday, taking third in a meet in Jamestown.
The Hi-Liners earned their highest team score of the season despite having Sara Gilbertson, one of the team's most consistent vaulters and a strong beam performer, out with a sore ankle.
Rebekah Fisher led the way with a 35.80 All Around score and placed in all events.
She currently holds the Hi-Liner school records for vault, bars, beam and all around under the current rules system and has qualified by score for the state beam competition. Fisher and Taylor Johnson are both currently ranked high enough to make the state meet as an All Around competitor.

The team has been working hard to upgrade their vaulting skills.  Fisher (9.15-4th) and Brienne Roehrich(9.05- 7th) both scored over 9 on vault. Two nines on vault is a first for the Hi-liners this year. Taylor Johnson (8.70) and Hannah Sorensen (8.50) rounded out the school's vaulting scores. Both Johnson and Sorensen plan to add higher level vaults for the Eastern Dakota Conference regional meet this weekend.
Fisher also led in bars for the Hi-Liners with an 8.75. Rebekah, who recently added a high level release move to her bar routine, placed 4th. Abby Brown (8.475-5th), Emilee Fisher (8.375-6th) and Roehrich(7.95-12th) also had strong performances on bars.

The Hi-Liners struggled on the beam at the meet, despite the fact that Rebekah Fisher, Johnson and Roehrich all upgraded their routines to include a standing back tuck and Kennadee Jorrissen also upgraded her routine to include a new flight element.  Rebekah Fisher scored a 9.05(3rd) with Johnson scoring a 8.875(7th).  Emilee Fisher(8.1-13th) and Roehrich( 8.225-12th) both contributed to the Hi-Liners beam score. The Hi-Liners have 5 gymnasts (R Fisher, Johnson, Gilbertson, Roehrich, E Fisher) who have scored a 8.9 or higher during the season.  Beam will be a focus point as the team prepares for the conference and state championships.
Taylor Johnson lead the Hi-Liners on floor with her consistent tumbling and dance skills. Johnson had a standout performance earning a 9.10 for 4th place.  Johnson has qualified for the state championships by score earning a 9.233 average.  Hunter Saylor had her best floor routine of the year earning an 8.8. The Hi-Liner floor scores also included an 8.9 from Rebekah Fisher and an 8.725 by Roehrich.
In the All Around competition three Hi-Liners placed in the top 10.  Rebekah Fisher took fourth with a 35.8, Taylor Johnson took eighth with a 34.375 and Brienne Roehrich earned 10th with a 33.975.
