Valley City High School's girls cross country team took first place in their division Friday in the first annual VCSU Cross Country Meet at the Valley City Town and Country Club.
Running against teams from Jamestown High School, Central Prairie and Sargent Central, the Hi-Liners ended up with 27 points, and VCHS 10th grader April Berntson took first running the 3K race with a time of 12:04.
Jamestown's Maya Moltzen came in second with a time of 12:19, and Jamestown's Rachel Morin came in third with a time of 12:30.
In second place was JHS with 34 points, in third was Central Prairie with 84 points, and in fourth was Sargent Central with 87 points.
Also running for VCHS were Mikaylah Ross who came in fourth with a time of 12:36, Barbara Zumbrod fifth with a time of 12:48, Jamie Ronning eighth with a time of 13:11, Jessica Ronning ninth with a time of 13:22 and Aislinn Fogarty in 13th with a time of 14:34.
In other divisions, VCSU took second with 43 points in the mens 5K college run. Concordia College took first place with 25 points and University of Minnesota/Morris took third with 59 points.
Taking first for men was Brad McConn of Concordia with a time of 16:05, in second was Chalome Cormbellick of Morris with a time of 16:08, in third Ryan Sederquist of Concordia with a time of 16:26, in fourth Tanner Sakrismo with a time of 16:41 and in fifth was VCSU's Jose Garcia with a time of 17:01. In sixth was VCSU's Richard Wright with a time of 17:05.
In the 4K women's college run, Linda Keller of Morris took first with a time of 14:08, Hann Knickerbocker of Concordia took second with a time of 15:01, Concordia's Morgan Christian took third with a time of 15:31 and VCSU's Anna Fuka came in fourth with a time of 15:38.
Concordia came in first with 20 points, Morris second with 66 points, Bemidhi State University third with 92 points and Jamestown College fourth with 97 points.
VCHS came in fourth in the boys 4K varsity run with 69 points. Jamestown took first with 28 points, Sargent Central second with 58 points and Central Prairie third with 62 points.
Alex Askerooth of Sargent Central came in first with a time of 13:55, Kyle Schumacher of Jamestown was second with a time of 14:04 and Michael Sorenson of Jamestown third with a time of 14:55. Valley City High School's Casey Engelhard took fourth with a time of 15:01.
In the 4K Junior Varsity high school run, Jake Lorig of Jamestown came in first with a time of15:46, Jamestown's Leo Fremgen took second with a time of 15:53 and Jamestown's Luke Bowman took third with a time of 16:11.
Joey Aus in seventh place took the fastest time for VCHS at 18:17. Jamestown took first with 15 points, VCHS came in second with 65 points and Sargent Central third with 69 points.
For the girls high school 3K junior varsity division, Jamestown took first with 21 points, and VCHS second with 24 points. Jamestown's Nikki Fritz took first with a time of 14:28, Eden Crump of VCHS took second with a time of 14:31 and Kristen Gee of Jamestown came in third with a time of 15:20.
