VC Takes First at MATHCOUNTS: Erik Johnson Places First Individually

Valley City, Feb. 7, 2013 – A team of middle school Mathletes from Valley City Jr. High won the Barnes County MATHCOUNTS competition. The top individual was Erik Johnson, son of Scott and Amy Johnson, from Valley City Jr. High. Second place was Evan Haglund, son of Bret and Toni Haglund, from Valley City Jr. High. Third place was Sam Richman, son of Matt and Jenni Richman, from Maple Valley. Fourth place was Dustin Kasowski, son of Randy and Lori Kasowski, from Maple Valley.
Members of the Valley City Jr. High team are Evan Haglund, son of Bret and Toni Haglund; Erik Johnson, son of Scott and Amy Johnson; Taylor Johnson, daughter of John and Jan Johnson; and Tanner Thomsen, son of Mark and Paula Thomsen. The Valley City Jr. High team is coached by Mr. Trevar Hansen.
Students competed in math areas of probability, algebra, statistics and polynomials. Students competed in a sprint round, a target round, and a team round. Competition results will be sent to our region. Regional winners will be notified and will attend state competition in March.

Barnes County North-West Campus: Mrs. Carrie Braaten, coach; David Fletcher, son of Dana and Amy Fletcher; Alexis Rath, daughter of Teresa Krueger; Alexis Rose, daqughter of Lee and Vicki Rose; Tess Scott; daughter of Tom and Kelly Scott.
