VC Native Faces Rape Charges

Steve Sortland, a 1988 Valley City High School graduate, has been accused of criminal sexual conduct in Halstad, Minn. where he is the city's mayor.

A former Valley City resident and mayor of Halstad Minn., Steve Sortland, was charged with first-and third-degree sexual conduct in Norman County, Minn.,late last week.
Sortland, a 1988 Valley City High School graduate, was arrested on May 27 in Norman County during a traffic stop.
On May 26, the Norman County Sheriff's Department received a report of criminal sexual conduct and a report of terroristic threats from an acquaintance whom Sortland allegedly sexually assaulted, according to Norman County Sheriff Jeremy Thornton. An investigation into the complaints revealed enough evidence to arrest Sortland, said Thornton.
