A Valley City man has been arrested for attempting to lure a minor, possibly for sexual purposes.
Chris Kinney, 46, was arrested and charged Thursday with Luring a Minor by Computer or Electronic Device, a class-C felony; and Corruption or Solicitation of a Minor, a Class-A misdemeanor.
On Feb. 5. a juvenile reported to a social worker that the juvenile had received text messages of a sexual nature, according to a press release from the Valley City Police Department. The social worker contacted the VCPD.
"A review of the text messages revealed that the suspect, a male, was attempting to engage the juvenile in one or more sexual acts, requesting that they meet in a pre-arranged location," said Valley City Police Department Chief Fred Thompson.
With cooperation of the juvenile and parents, members of the VCPD and the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation took the cell phone and continued to exchange text messages with the suspect.
After many text exchanges with the suspect, the suspect requested a meeting with the "juvenile," who was actually law enforcement officers, in Valley City.
On Thursday, members of the VCPD, the BCI and the Barnes County Sheriff's office waited in the area of the pre-arranged meeting place. The suspect arrived, driving the vehicle indicated in a text, and was arrested without incident.
"This investigation is continuing as there is a possibility that there are additional victims who have not contacted the police," said Thompson.
The Valley City Police Department is requesting that anyone with any information on this case to call (701) 845-3110.
