VC Gathers for Community Photo

July 3, 2014

Community leaders and residents of Valley City gather in front of The Vault Coffee Shop Wednesday afternoon for a community photo. David Brekke, who owns the shop with his wife Kimberly "Kyly," plans to Photoshop names of the family-owned business to replace the blank white signs.

A little over a year ago, the Times-Record told you about a new coffee shop and community center that was slated to open in Valley City. What made The Vault Coffee Shop and Bakery unique was its self-service pay-by-honor-system business model. Eight months after its grand opening in October, The Vault has gained international attention for its unique business model, which seems to be working.

Several media outlets have asked owners Kimberly "Kyly" and David Brekke for a photo of the shop, so the couple decided to have a community photo taken in front of The Vault. About 150 people gathered for the photo Wednesday afternoon.
