Valley City State, NSAA 5-Star Champions of Character

October 4, 2013

The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) is an NAIA Five-Star Champions of Character Conference, a distinction bestowed upon conferences in which 60 percent of the member institutions earn Champions of Character Five-Star Institution status.

Through the Champions of Character, the NAIA seeks to create an environment with every student-athlete, coach, official and spectator committed to the true spirit of competition through five core values: integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership.

Dakota State is the NSAA’s top-scoring NAIA Champions of Character Five-Star Institution this year, with 71 points out of 100 on the Champions of Character Scorecard. Mayville State tallied 68 points, followed by Valley City State's 65 and University of Jamestown's 64.

In total, 217 schools were named Five-Star Champions of Character institutions for 2012-2013.

This year, more than 80 percent of NAIA member institutions scored the 60 points necessary for Five-Star Champion status.
