Valley City businesses open their doors for sales launching the holiday season. Button/Raffle Sales Begins, Snowman Contest Begins
Greetings From Your President
By Michelle Wobbema, Bank Forward
I hope you all had a scary Halloween! Ruckus at the Rec on Oct 25th was a big success again this year! It was fun to see all the creative costumes the kids (and adults) were wearing. I can’t believe it is already time to start planning for the holiday season. Our Commerce committee is in full swing planning our Christmas in the Valley event. The event will kickoff with our annual Women’s Weekend on November 9th . The button sales will start the next day during the Holiday Open House, which leads to weekly prize drawings. So, be sure to buy your button early to get in on some great prizes that will be given away. Coming soon will be the annual wine tasting event at the Museum on November 5th, the Holiday Open House on November 10th, and the Snowball Fling at the HAC on November 23rd. There are a lot more events scheduled so please take a look at the calendar that is enclosed for your convenience. Businesses will be displaying their snowman again this year. Make sure to check them out and see how innovative the businesses are getting! We will announce the winner of the snowman decorating contest and the best decorated house in December during Santa Day. This past month has been very busy and exciting for our community! It is great to see our community booming with growth and development. I have been to several ribbon cutting ceremonies, business after hours and open houses. These are all a great way to let people in the community know about your business and to make lasting acquaintances and customers. The Chamber is proud to be invited to your events and to help promote the business district, so let us know when your next event is. October’s customer service award went to Jan Eggert at Dacotah Bank. Congratulations Jan on giving outstanding customer service! If you have someone you would like to nominate for a CSA, please contact the Chamber today! Remember to shop local this holiday season and I wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving!!

A note from your EVP/
Kay Vinje
Happy Fall to one and all! I hope you’ve had a chance to take in the beauty of our area during this season. We are so fortunate to have “natural scenery” here! There is also no shortage of things to do in the next couple of months with the myriad of events during Women’s Weekend on Nov. 9th, the Holiday Open House Nov. 10th, and the Holiday Lights Parade on Friday, Dec 6th just for starters! Christmas in the Valley Buttons go on sale Nov. 9th through Dec 13th. The purchase of a Button will qualify you in the daily raffle drawings for lots of great prizes beginning Nov. 11th, so get them early for more chances to win! Our Grand Prize is an iPad mini with many other super prizes. Get an early start on your Christmas shopping this year as you check out the great gift ideas all over town! Recently we sent out an All Year Sponsorship letter, offering the opportunity to get special advertising during the Chamber events. Several of our Members have asked for this once a year format enabling them to make those decisions annually and possibly write one Sponsorship check for the entire year. We hope it works well for you. If however, this once a year format does not work well for your business, please let us know and we will be happy to offer the same opportunities as the events come up. We greatly appreciate our Chamber Members and any sponsorships you may choose to do. By doing so, you enable these events to take place and be promoted throughout Barnes County. Hats off to you all!

Goodbye & Welcome At the DMV
We, at the Rosebud Visitors Center, would like to say farewell and good luck to Janice Smith, head of the Valley City DMV, as she prepares to move to Idaho. Janice’s last day was October 31st. We have loved having her here. She will be greatly missed!
Geraldine “Gerry” Knutson Benefit
Spaghetti Supper (free will donation) Bake Sale & Silent Auction
Friday, November 15th from 5pm-7pm At the Valley City Eagles Club
Gerry Knutson was critically injured in a car accident Friday, August 16th in downtown Valley City. She has had five surgeries thus far having broken 50 bones. Eventually she will get a hip replacement and two new knees. In the meantime, she works hard in physical therapy with a goal to come home for Christmas. The most recent problem is a blood clot. Gerri has a strong faith in God and is a fighter. Organized by Grace Free Faith Evening Circle & Curves.
On a happier note we would like to welcome Shanel Finke who will be taking over for Janice. Feel free to stop in and meet our new employee! As a member of the International Association of Fairs and Expositions the North Dakota Winter Show is taking part in the “DREAM BIG IN 2013 Food Drive” campaign. Throughout 2013 the IAFE member fairs and events have been collecting canned goods and donating them to a local food pantry. The North Dakota Winter Show office at the Rosebud Visitor Center. You will receive one entry into a drawing for a pair of North Star Classic Dinner Show “Simply Diamond”. Donations will go to Great Plains Food Bank in Fargo for distribution throughout the state.
Bridge City Highlights: Customer Service Award Jan Eggert
Congratulations to Jan Eggert of Dacotah Bank on being selected as the October Customer Service Award Winner! Jan was nominated by Lori Jury who has had many pleasant interactions with her.
“In my capacity as secretary of the VC Rural Fire Dept. I stop by Dacotah Bank in Valley City regularly to meet with Dick Gulmon, VC Rural Fire Dept. treasurer. With Dick’s and my busy schedules we don’t often get a chance to meet face to face to handle our dept. business. Dacotah Bank employee Jan Eggert has been wonderful to serve as our go between. Jan is friendly and kind, efficient, always professional and willing to help however she can. Not only does she meet the rural fire dept.’s customer needs at Dacotah Bank but she goes a step above and beyond to assist Dick and I with our dept. business. Considering the fact she is not directly involved with the VC Rural Fire Dept. I feel she especially deserves thsi award for exceptional customer service as well as for “above and beyond community service” for the firemen of our rural fire department! It is employees and citizens like Jan Eggert at Dacotah Bank that make a city a “community” and a pleasant place in which to live and do business!
Congratulations Jan!
