Two women were seriously injured in a multi-vehicle crash Friday in Valley City.
Sandra Burchill, 69, and Geraldine Knutson, 65, both of Valley City, were reportedly seriously injured in the incident which took place on East Main Street and Second Avenue at about 5 p.m., according to Sgt. Troy Wolf of the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
The crash, which involved seven cars and five drivers, occurred when the Ford truck driven by Burchill was traveling westbound on Main Street at a reported high rate of speed, according to a media release from the Highway Patrol. Burchill's vehicle struck a Chevrolet Impala driven Knutson traveling eastbound on main Street preparing to turn north onto Second Avenue Northeast. The impact propelled both vehicles into several other vehicles, both occupied and unoccupied.
Burchill and Knutson were both extricated by Valley City Fire and Rescue and were transported to Mercy Hospital. Both women were then air-lifted to Sanford Hospital in Fargo.
Minor injuries were reported from occupants of the other cars.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. The crash is under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
