UPDATE: Man Lost in Sheyenne Is VCSU Student

April 21, 2014

Officials say three men fell into the Sheyenne River near here at 1:15 Monday morning. Two of the men were rescued and one is still missing.

A Valley City State University male student is missing after three people fell into the Sheyenne River when their rubber raft capsized early Monday morning.

The accident happened at about 1:15 Monday morning near the Little Dam by Eighth Avenue Southwest. Two other men were rescued by Valley City police officers.

Officials are lowering the river level so divers from Valley Water Rescue from Fargo can use sonar to find the missing man, according to Valley City Fire Department Chief Gary Retterath.

VCSU President Steve Shirley said in an email to the university community that the missing man is a VCSU student but did not comment on the two men who were rescued.

Officials say the two rescued men are at Mercy Hospital, and their conditions are unknown.
