June 10, 2012

1,600 rubber ducks hit the water during the 2007 duck race

Special to the Times-Record

The Valley City Area Chamber of Commerce announces that this year’s proceeds from the Annual “Duckin’ Down the Sheyenne” rubber duck race will go to United Way of Barnes County.

The annual fundraiser will be held on Saturday, June 16 during the Rally in the Valley festivities.

Applications were reviewed by the Chamber Board on Friday, May 18.
There were many local youth-orientated organizations who applied. The United Way will use the funds to support the many worthy groups within Barnes County that they support.

The group will be responsible for the sale of the 1,600 numbered duck certificates for $5 each—which will be available from Twisters Gymnastic Club members or the Valley City Chamber of Commerce beginning on June 1. Recipients from previous years were the Twisters Gymnastics Team, Viper/Prowl Hockey Club, Dakota Horizons Girl Scouts, Valley City Sharks Swim Team and the Valley City Skateboard Park.

The ducks will be dropped from the City Park footbridge at 1 p.m. and will float down the river to the finish line near the West City Park Bridge.

The first duck to be retrieved earns $500 for the lucky person holding that serial number. There will be 10 cash prizes awarded totaling $1,000.
