Travel Alert issued for today due to high wind conditions

October 18, 2012

The North Dakota Department of Transportation has issued a Travel Alert for today due to high wind conditions. The strong winds may cause difficult driving conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles such as semis, trucks, busses and SUVs. Motorists are advised to use caution when meeting and passing vehicles as well as driving through strong wind gusts.
According to the National Weather Service in Bismarck, strong northwest winds of 40 mph gusting to 65 mph will persist through central and western North Dakota this afternoon, with the system expected to move east across the state throughout the day.

A Travel Alert means motorists can still travel but may encounter areas of challenging driving conditions on roadways.
All travelers are encouraged to monitor road conditions, reduce traffic speeds as weather conditions occur and use caution while traveling. For road information, call 511 from any type of phone or go to the website: www.dot.nd.gov.
