The Valley City Times-Record won several awards at the North Dakota Newspaper Association's Better Newspaper Contest, Friday May 2 in Bismarck.

Reporter Bonnie Jo Conley-Hanson took first in agriculture photography; reporters Heidi Harris and Conley-Hanson took third in overall design excellence for a the Harvest section; and sports editor Jake McNeal took second in outdoor recreation photography.

Production manager Tina Olson, advertising sales representative Pam Stark and publisher J. Reed Anderson took first in home and garden advertising; Olson took second in food advertising; and Olson, Anderson, Stark and office manager Brenda Tompt took third in a special advertising section.

Conley-Hanson said, "It's nice to be recognized for something that you love to do."

Editor Paul Riemerman said, "I'm glad that our hard work and effort is noticed by our peers."
