Terri Endres, 52, of Grand Forks, died Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Altru hospital surrounded by family and friends after battling Melanoma since 2006.
Teresa Lynn Sandvik daughter of Lyla Pittenger and Ted Sandvik was born June 24, 1960 in Valley City, ND. Terri was a 1978 graduate of Valley City High School. She moved to Grand Forks to attend the University of North Dakota where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary/Special Education. Living in Grand Forks she met the love of her life, Paul Endres, while dealing blackjack at the ElRoco. In 1985 they were married and blessed with a daughter, Carly Michelle.
Terri worked at the Grafton State School from 1984-1988; her countless stories of love for their residents will be missed. In 1988 Paul and Terri were thrilled by the birth of their son, Jacob Rodell. In order to spend more time with her children she started a home daycare that she operated for 17 years, touching numerous families along that journey.
In the fall of 1996 she started at Lake Agassiz Elementary where she wore many hats at one time; Instructional Para-teaching Health to Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd graders, parent coordinator, lunchroom supervisor, and more recently provided tutoring to English Language Learners, which she enjoyed immensely.
Terri and Paul have a great circle of friends that they did a variety of activities with from camping to concerts to cheering on local teams, particularly hockey. Terri was passionate about many things especially Fighting Sioux hockey. She was a Sioux-per Fan-even if it got her called into the “principal’s office”.
Terri was always on the go. Bowling, Bunco, golfing, flower gardening, reading and floating in the pool were some of her favorite ways to spend her time. Terri started having an annual pool party over 20 years ago where the all female party went from noon to late the next day. Terri’s dance moves will be missed and attempted to be recreated by many. She loved playing and sometimes hosting live trivia at the ElRoco on Saturdays.
Terri was very proud of both of her children. She enjoyed time with her grand-dogs Kona and Joplin. She was very much looking forward to having grandchildren.
Towards the end of her life she looked forward to reading the many kind words her friends and family had written on her caring bridge website. No one would ever have accused her of being a ‘homebody’ but it was her favorite place to be.
She is survived by her loving husband, Paul and her children Carly and Jake both of Grand Forks; her mother, Lyla Sandvik, sisters Mavis (Tom) Winkels, Betty Koltes all of Grand Forks and sister, Nancy (Paul) Hilborn of Valley City, and Tim (Mara) Sandvik of Leesburg, VA; In-Laws; Pat (Laura) Endres, BD Murden, Tom (Mary) Endres all of Grand Forks, Maureen (Ross) Erickson of Arvilla, ND, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ted Sandvik; mother-in-law, M. Gloria Endres, and nephews, Bennett and McCain Endres.
