Street repairs wrap up for winter
Residents in the 5th and 6th Avenue Southwest are finally seeing an end in sight.
Since the flood of 2009, the area surrounding 5th and 6th Avenue Southwest has undergone extensive construction work. A complete overhaul of water mains and sewers was mounted last summer, and the road remained unpaved all winter and into most of 2011.
"So many things complicated the project- weather, as well as saturated soil conditions," said Chad Petersen, engineer and office manager for Kadrmas, Lee and Jackson, the firm tasked with heading up the monumental repair project. "The streets down there have been ripped up basically since the flood of '09."
Petersen has some good news, estimating that paving operations around 5th and 6th avenues will wrap up soon. "I would say that area is 85-90 percent complete," he said, and projected that work on concrete driveways and boulevards will be finished by roughly the second week in November. Sodding on some still-bare boulevards will pick up next spring.
