Stoney Run, bluegrass group from southeastern North Dakota will play at the final Music at the Courthouse Lawn Wednesday.
The final evening of music at the courthouse is on Wednesday, August 15 at 7:15 p.m. featuring Stoney Run, a bluegrass band from SE North Dakota. Come early to enjoy ice cream floats provided by the Bridges Arts Council.
Stoney Run has been performing for four years in the region.
Performances have included the Band Shell Concert Series in Valley City, the Fort Ransom Bluegrass Festival, and the Missouri River Bluegrass Festival at Cross Ranch State Park.  Two selections from the group are included on the 2011 Bluegrass Association of North Dakota’s B.A.N.D. Sampler recording.Â
With varied musical experience among the band members, it’s not surprising that their bluegrass music is eclectic.  Guitarist Bob Bubach brings a rich background of folk and popular acoustic music to the group.  Jeremy Zeltinger comes from the classical violin camp, and has quickly become a first-rate bluegrass fiddler.  Steve Simonson plays bass and mandolin and has performed country and popular music for several years.  John Andrus has 30 years of bluegrass banjo playing under his belt and is excited to be performing with a group that allows his side interest in swing and jazz music to flourish.Â
A typical performance includes traditional bluegrass standards such as Blue Highway’s “Lonesome Pine” and the Country Gentlemen’s’ “Fox on the Run.”  Fiddle tunes might include “Durham’s Bull” and “Sally Ann.”  Jazz and swing numbers include Duke Ellington’s “Caravan,” and George Gershwin’s “Oh, Lady Be Good.”  Gospel numbers such as “Seven Sundays in a Row” and “Halleluah, I’m Ready” are included when appropriate.
Music at the courthouse is sponsored by the Valley City Parks & Recreation District, Bridges Arts Council & Dakota Country. A free will offering is taken each night. Bring your lawn chair or blanket. In case of inclement weather, the program will be held in the City Auditorium
