Steve Douglas Kennedy

Steve Douglas Kennedy, 60, of Fertile, MN, died suddenly Thursday, February 6, 2014, at his residence. He was born on November 12, 1953, to Ralph and June (Pesola) Kennedy at Perham, MN. They moved to Valley City, ND, where he graduated from Valley City High School in 1972. Following his schooling, Steve worked in Spiritwood, ND, near Valley City, in construction for seven years. He managed a video store for three years and worked for Arcoda Manufacturing. Over the years, Steve enjoyed travelling, playing baseball, and hunting with friends and relatives. He moved to Fargo, ND, and worked for Don’s Car Wash.
While in Fargo he met Debra Horton and her family. Steve knew that he wanted a family, so they were married on August 24, 1999, at Fargo, ND. They made their home in Fertile, MN, and Steve began working at the Shooting Star Casino, Mahnomen, MN. Steve loved watching sports, especially the Vikings, and the news. He enjoyed a good conversation. Steve’s priority was his grandchildren and would call or see one of the grandkids every day. His family, especially his grandchildren meant the world to him.
Steve is survived by his wife, Debra Kennedy, Fertile, MN; step-children: Kisha (Zach) Pederson, Fertile; Chad (Janice) Horton, Jason (Samantha) Horton, and Brandon Horton, all of Fertile; nine grandchildren; siblings: Ronald, TX, Dave, WY, Neil, Fargo, ND, Carol Dean, Grand Forks, ND, Sue Pederson, CA, Jean Schaefer, MN, and Paul, WA; several nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents, step-father, Tony Ekert step-son, Aaron, Horton, two brothers, Roger and Mike.
Memorial services will be on Monday, February 10, 2014, at 2 PM in the Erikson-Vik Funeral Home, Fertile, MN.
Visitation will be one hour before the services at the Erikson-Vik Funeral Home, Fertile, MN.
