When Dr. Steve Shirley arrived in Valley City six years ago at the age of 35, he was noted as one of the youngest university presidents in the nation.
Come July 1, Shirley becomes new president of Minot State University. At the time Shirley took the job at VCSU, he was vice president for student affairs at Dakota State University in Madison, S.D.
When Shirley arrived in Valley City, his biggest challenge â€œwas growing the campus. Enrollment was fairly constant or flat for a number of years â€“ like 20.
