Sheriff's Department Could Have New Home

After a season of controversy between Barnes County officials and Valley City, county commissioners have elected to move forward with negotiations on a lease agreement for new offices for the Barnes County Sheriff's Department.
The sheriff's new home will likely be the old USDA building located off Winter Show Road. With an annual lease of $17,820 per-year and the costs for installing new technology for the building, the move will cost significantly more than staying in the Valley City Law Enforcement Center where the sheriff's department is currently located.
Two commissioners voted no to moving forward with the lease agreement. Commissioner John Froelich telling commissioners he would not vote to spend money on personalities.
