Sheriff Notifies Public of High Risk Sex Offender

The Barnes County Sheriff's Office is notifying the public of a high risk sex offender that is currently housed in the Barnes County Jail and a resident of Valley City.
According to sheriff Randy McClaflin, the state has assessed Michael A. Nelson, 23, of Valley City as a high risk sex offender. Nelson was convicted in Dec. 2009 for corruption or solicitation of minors.
A nine-member committee recently reviewed his file and changed his assessment to high risk.
Nelson is currently on work release and is employed by Quality Refinishing, 1100 Seventh Street, Southeast in Valley City.
He is scheduled to be released from the Barnes County Jail on May 29, 2013.
