Roger Pickar, age 59, of Kathryn, ND, died Wednesday, January 1, 2014, at Essentia Health in Fargo.
Roger Lee Pickar was born on March 4, 1954 in Wadena, MN, the son of Albert and Anne (LaDoux) Pickar. He was raised in Nimrod and graduated from Sebeka High School in 1972.
Roger spent his adult life working as a welder and farm laborer throughout the US before settling in the southern Central ND area. He met and married Elaine (Hersch Iwen) on March 26, 1982.
Roger had a deep love and respect for all animals, especially cats. He enjoyed traveling, his farm work, trips to the casino, and woodworking.
Roger is survived by his wife of 31 years, Elaine, whom he loved and adored; his stepchildren, Curt (Cindy) Iwen of Enderlin, Cindy (Bruce) Somers of Fargo, Randy (Carmen) Iwen of Evanston, WY, Marty (Tammy) Iwen of McLeod, and Rhonda (Marshall) Braaten of Wyndmere; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; his brothers, Richard (Pat) Pickar, Robert (Connie) Pickar, both of Nimrod, MN and his sister, Hazel VonBank of West Fargo, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Larry, and niece, Lesa (Pickar) Olson.
A memorial service will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Cross (1402 16th St E, West Fargo) on Saturday, January 11 at 10:30A.
A graveside service will be at the Lyons Cemetery, Nimrod, MN at a later date.
