Reuben Spitzer, age 83 of Valley City died Thursday at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 AM Tuesday Oct. 9th at Epworth United Methodist Church with Rev. Dayne Zachrison officiating. Visitation will be from 4 PM until 7 PM Monday at Epworth Church with a Prayer Service beginning at 7 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. Interment will be in Woodbine Cemetery at Valley City.
Reuben Albert Spitzer, the son of Andrew and Hanna (Scheurer) Spitzer, was born on December 9, 1928, in Bismarck, North Dakota. On October 15, 1950, he was joined in marriage to Leona George of Mandan, North Dakota.
Reuben enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard on January 11, 1951, during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on May 10, 1953. After his military service, he returned to Bismarck and was employed as a plumber.
Reuben and Leona moved to Valley City where he went into business with his brother at Ed’s Texaco. After the retirement of his brother, he owned and operated Reub’s Service.
Reuben is survived by his wife of 62 years and four daughters, Sandy Goeller (Valley City), Pam (Nolan) Aycock (Houston, TX), Deb Kuhry (Valley City), and Vickie Bade (Las Vegas, NV); six grandchildren, Aaron (Stephanie) Klein (Haymarket, VA), Sarah (Stacy) Mark (Flagstaff, NV), Christina Goeller (Fargo), Jason Ukestad (Dallas, TX), Ryan Kuhry (Valley City), and Kielley Bade (Las Vegas, NV); four great-grandchildren, Christopher Klein, Madeline Klein, Alexandra Ukestad, and Samantha Ukestad; one brother, Edwin (Sonny) Spitzer (Valley City), one sister, Darlene (Allan) Haggeroth (Casper, WY), and many nieces and nephews.
Reuben was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one niece.
Funeral arrangements are by the Lerud Schuldt Funeral Home of Valley City, North Dakota.
