Valley City is in a Red Flag Warning on this Monday, May 7 from now until 6 p.m. tonight according to the National Weather Service of Grand Forks.

A Red Flag Warning means that the area is in a critical fire weather condition and that any grass fire or other fires that ignite will have the potential to spread rapidly.

Southwest winds of between 15-20 miles per hour and gusts of up to 35 miles per hour, a relatively low humidity rate of 16 percent, and temperatures in the low to mid-80s keep the area at risk this Monday afternoon.

The county also still remains in a fire ban, which means any bonfires, backyard fires, or other fires are illegal at this time.

Citizens are urged to use extra caution in these conditions today.

The Red Flag Warning will hopefully subside this evening as showers and thunder are expected to roll in overnight and throughout tomorrow, Tuesday, May 8.
