Rebuilt 16U Softball Seeks Northern Championship

July 28, 2014

(Valley City 16U Softball) McKenna Taylor winds up a pitch.

Valley City 16U softball heads to Bismarck, N.D.’s Northern Championships on Wednesday eager to prove that age isn’t everything.

“In a reloading summer, we are bringing a fairly young team to this tournament in hopes of gaining valuable experience that will aid us in our future goals,” head coach Jason Lindgren said. “... The average age of this year’s Valley City team is 15.07 years, almost exactly a full year under the 16U limit, and many of the teams participating will be comprised of girls that probably had their 17th birthday sometime after the first of the year; Valley City has two such girls in Brooke Breckheimer and Madison McDaniel, so we will most likely be one of the youngest teams in this tournament. That presents some challenges, but also gives these girls a great opportunity to see how they stack up and what they need to work on to compete with teams from around the region.”

Breckheimer, McDaniel, Tarryn Justesen, Hannah Meyer, Kaylee Schlittenhardt, Heather Knutson, Maren Horner, Emily Murray, Haley Schnaidt, McKenna Taylor, Mackenzie Pederson, Kacee White, Lexi Ondracek and Grace Scherr carry the Valley City standard into battle.
