Pedestrian Struck by Pickup Dies

June 30, 2014

Rita Weber, a pedestrian struck by a pickup truck last week in Valley City, died of her injuries Monday afternoon.

Weber, 92, was walking along Central Avenue North and was in the crosswalk at Central Avenue North and Sixth Avenue Northwest when she was struck by a Ford F-150 driven by by Robert J. Mittleider, 32, of Valley City on Sunday, June 22.

According to Valley City Police Department Chief Fred Thompson, Weber was transported to Mercy Hospital by ambulance, and later transported by Life Flight helicopter to Sanford Hospital in Fargo.

An investigation at the time of the accident showed neither speed nor alcohol was a factor in the accident.

Mittleider was issued a citation on the scene for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. More charges against Mittleider are possible, according to Thompson.

The VCPD continues to investigate this incident and is requesting that anyone with any information call (701)845-3110.
