Olson and Ingstad Double Up for 2nd at State

May 26, 2014

(Jake McNeal/Times-Record) East No. 3 seed Hi-Liner junior Clarissa Olson (left) and 8th-grader Reagan Ingstad reached Saturday’s North Dakota State Girls Tennis Doubles Tournament championship match before falling 6-2, 6-2 to Bismarck St. Mary seniors Alicia Beck and Mary Roller.

Hi-Liner junior Clarissa Olson and 8th-grader Reagan Ingstad are State Tennis Doubles runner-ups after vanquishing East champion Grand Forks Red River freshman Maddie Anderson and junior Alexis Caoili 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 in the semifinal, and falling 6-2, 6-2 in the title match to West champion Bismarck St. Mary’s seniors Alicia Beck and Mary Roller.

“Beck and Roller were very tough,” said Valley City head coach Matt Nielson. “Their serves were faster than we have seen, their offensive game was very powerful, and their touch was the best that I’ve seen as a coach. We put up a great fight against them, winning two games a set and going to several other deuces, but all the credit goes to Saint Mary’s on their championship.”

Valley City took sixth in the Team Tournament by falling 3-2 to East No. 4 Fargo Davies, whom the Hi-Liners defeated 6-3 at home on May 1, in the Fifth-Place Game.

Olson made the State trip as last year’s East Doubles No. 2 with now-graduated Destiny Winkler.
