A Gallup Poll study has again ranked North Dakota the nation’s best state for creating jobs. North Dakota also ranked at the top of Gallup poll rankings in 2009 and 2010.
“For the past decade, we have been working to build a business climate that creates job growth and economic opportunities for our people,” said Gov. Jack Dalrymple. “This study illustrates the success of those efforts by ranking North Dakota first in the nation in job creation for the third consecutive year. While other states are suffering job losses, North Dakota is reporting impressive growth, demonstrating yet again how our economic development strategies are producing real results for our state.”
The Gallup job creation survey reported that in 2011 employees in North Dakota were most likely to report that their employers were hiring workers rather than letting workers go. The state's resulting +34 score on Gallup's Job Creation Index was the best by a significant margin over any other state.
The findings are based on nearly 200,000 interviews with employed adults during 2011 and conducted as part of Gallup’s Daily Tracking Poll. Interviewees were asked whether their companies are hiring workers and expanding the size of their labor forces, not changing the size of their workforces, or laying off workers and reducing their workforces. In another recent study, North Dakota was selected as the second happiest state by the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index. North Dakotans reported the second highest degree of well-being in the country in 2011. Hawaiians came in #1.
The index includes questions about six types of well-being, including overall evaluation of their lives, emotional health, physical health, healthy behaviors (such as whether a person smokes or exercises), and job satisfaction.
