NDWS Entertainment Covering the Gamut

Planned entertainment for the North Dakota Winter Show, scheduled for March 4 to March 10 in Valley City, will cover the gamut, with activities aimed at men, women and children.

The first scheduled entertainment event will be Country Hoedown Day, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 5. In return for a $20 admission fee, visitors will be able to attend the festivities featuring The Shadows, Cowboy Poet Rod Nelson, and the quartet Adapt.

The local quartet was started about 18 years ago, and features Don Bauer, Tony Kobbervig, Lance Drevecky and Monte McDaniel, with Marion Drevecky as accompanist.

Also qualifying as entertainment on that first day will be an old-time tractor pull at 3 p.m. and the NDWS pickup pull at 6:30 p.m.

Planned entertainment Wednesday includes the Senior’s Day Dance from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Eagles with Marv and the Moonlighters.

Thursday will be horse day, and entertainment will focus on the animals. A pony pull is scheduled for 9 a.m., the N.D. State Open Horse Pull will begin at 11 a.m. and the Women’s Division Luncheon will start 12:30 p.m. at the Eagles. The originally scheduled entertainment for the luncheon, the Great Pretenders, had to be changed due to poor health. Performing instead will be Tim and SueAnn Berntson and family, a county and southern Gospel musical group. Tickets can be pre-purchased by calling (800) 437-0218. Other Thursday entertainment includes draft horse events at 1:30 p.m., the horsemanship competition and NDWS Rodeo Queen Contestants from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the main arena, the High School Pep Band Competition in the Hi-Liner Activity Center at 6:30 p.m. and at 7 p.m., and a dance at the Valley City Eagles.

Planned Friday entertainment includes from noon to 2 p.m. in the south exhibit building rodeo queen contestant speeches, a free stage presentation by the Black Hills Raptor Center in the SEB at 2:30 p.m.; at 4:30 p.m. Verizon – BeMobile – Wireless Workshop; a free stage presentation by the Black Hills Raptor Center in the SEB at 5 p.m.; at 6 p.m. on the free stage in the SEB a style show by Z-BO, Urban Ranch and Rhonda and Krista’s Boutique; at 7 p.m. in the main arena a concert with Jerrod Niemann and opening act Gwen Sebastian.

Saturday will be Governor’s Day and PRCA Rodeos. Entertainment planned for the day includes: on the free stage in the SEB at 9 a.m. a cooking demo; at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. presentations by the Black Hills Raptor Center; at 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Imaginick the magician; at 1 p.m. style show by Z-BO, Urban Ranch and Rhonda and Krista’s Boutique; at noon and 3:30 p.m. Kendra & Krista – Tigerlilly; at 3 p.m. Verizon – BeMobile – Wireless Workshop; at 1:45 p.m. The Ag Hall of Fame induction ceremony in the main arena; at at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. PRCA Rodeo with Specialty One Arm Bandit in the main arena; at 6:30 p.m. in the main arena the Miss Rodeo ND Winter Show Coronation; at 9 p.m. a dance at the Eagles; and at 9 p.m. a Rodeo Dance at the VFW.

Rodeo events continue on March 10. Planned entertainment includes at 10 a.m. on the free stage of the SEB a cooking demo; at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the free stage in the SEB presentations by the Black Hills Raptor Center; at noon and 4 p.m. on the free stage of the SEB Imaginick the magician; at 1 p.m. a BeMobile – wireless workshop; at 2 p.m. PRCA Rodeo with specialty act, featuring One Arm Bandit; and a raffle drawing at 3 p.m.

The grand prize will be a .45-caliber Ruger Vaquero pistol. First place will be two tickets for four days of the National Finals Rodeo and hotel accommodations at Harrah’s in Las Vegas in December and second place will be an iPad.
