Multiple vehicle wreck on I-94 east of Valley City

The Valley City Fire Department rescue squad, Barnes County Sheriff's office, Barnes County Ambulance and the North Dakota Highway Patrol responded to a multiple vehicle pile-up in the median of I-94 between exit 296 and 298 a little after 1 p.m. Friday afternoon.

Wind gusts, blowing snow and slush in the roadway made driving conditions extremely hazardous. Some injuries were reported in the wreck, which initially was just two vehicles in the median, but eventually grew to include 5 cars, a semi and a truck which had rolled to rest on its top.

A minor injury was also reported from a nearby single-vehicle rollover on Hwy. 32 south of Oriska.

As of 2 p.m. Friday, the Valley City Police Department estimated they had received 15 to 20 reports of vehicles in the ditch or median, and roughly fifty 911 calls reporting accidents or vehicles in the ditch.

Be extremely careful if you do need to travel on this stretch of I-94.
