The expected number of riders was impacted a little by an early harvest. Instead of the 250 or so expected, there were maybe only 200. That’s 200 motorcyclists riding in the Fourth Annual Debbie Gabel Memorial Ride, this past Saturday.
The riders and a raffle for a brand-new Harley-Davidson motorcycle help raise nearly $60,000 for the Thundering Saints Inc. foundation, said ride organizer, Rocky Gabel, husband of the late Debbie for whom the ride and the foundation are dedicated.
“We raise nearly $52,000 on the bike raffle alone,” said Rocky. “And of that, $10,000 goes to hospice, $2,000 goes to Relay for Life, and $500 to $1,000 goes to Women’s Way. And throughout the year, we give a little here and a little there to help families who are going through tough times, whose family members are dealing with cancer.”
Saturday was the right day for the ride. More than 140 miles of the area was mapped out for the ride, and “crossing guards” were posted along the way to help with traffic and the number of bikes. The night ended with a silent auction and a dance.
