Minnesota Vikings Mascot “Viktor” Heading to the 75th Annual NDWS

February 27, 2012

VALLEY CITY (Midwest Dairy Association) To help commemorate the 75th Anniversary of North Dakota Winter Show, dairy farmers have invited Viktor, the Minnesota Vikings mascot, to meet fans, pose for photos and sign autographs. Viktor will be appearing at the show from 1-3 p.m., Thursday, March 8, near the Midwest Dairy Association milkshake stand inside the North Dakota Winter Show building.

The local dairy farmers have several other fun activities planned throughout the day, including a milking contest, appearances by North Dakota Dairy Princess, Rachael Rott, and more. Show-goers can also pick up free recipe brochures and chat with dairy farmers about the hard work and dedication it takes to produce the products we enjoy every day.

Viktor’s connection to North Dakota Dairy farmers stems from Midwest Dairy Association’s partnership with the National Football League to support Fuel Up to Play 60, an in-school nutrition and physical activity program launched by National Dairy Council (NDC) and National Football League (NFL), with additional partnership support from U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The program encourages youth to consume nutrient-rich foods, including low-fat and fat-free dairy, fruits, vegetables and whole grains and achieve at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. The program is a direct response to dairy farmers’ concerns that many U.S. children are overweight and undernourished. Currently, there are over 36 million students in 70,000 schools nationwide involved with the Fuel Up to Play 60 program.
