Valley City Town and Country Club held their Menâ€™s Day on July 17 as temperatures were on the rise. The Longest Putt of the Day, sponsored by Bank Forward, went to Jamie Wirth. The Pizza Ranch Closest to the Pin contest on Hole 2 was won by Doug Bergan. TJ Hansen claimed the prize on Hole 3 for Closest Shot Outside of 50 Yards, sponsored by the Valley City Town and Country Club. Club veteran Kerry Anderson continued his fine play and won the Closest Second Shot contest on Hole 4, sponsored by Taco Johnâ€™s.
Sabirâ€™s sponsored the Long Putt on Hole 5, and left handed Kevin Jacobson sank a putt from long range. Former club champion Jamie Paurus won the Hole 6 prize of Closest to the Pin, sponsored by the Labor Club. Paurus then went on to hit a long putt on Hole 7 and claim the prize sponsored by Farmers Union Insurance. Another left-handed heavy hitter, Mike Undem, won the Hole 8 prize of Closest to the 150-Yard Marker, sponsored by City Lights. Jeremy Wiebe hit a long putt on Hole 9 to win the prize sponsored by Carpet Connection.
Golfers flocked to Valley City Town and Country Club to partake in the fine weather we have had for golf as the July 24 Menâ€™s Day was the highest-attended of the year. Bank Forward sponsored a prize on Hole One for longest putt, and Paurus took home the prize. Hansen claimed the prize for Closest to the Pin on Hole 2, sponsored by Pizza Ranch. Dave Sather hit the Closest Shot Outside of 50 Yards to claim the prize, sponsored by the Valley City Town and Country Club, on Hole 3. Sather again bested all the golfers on the afternoon to win the Closest Second Shot prize on Hole 4, sponsored by Taco Johnâ€™s.
The Long Putt on Hole 5 went to CJ Kotta, and it was sponsored by Sabirâ€™s.
Sather managed to reach into his bag of tricks one more time to claim his third prize of the night; this time it was Closest to the Pin on Hole 6, sponsored by the Labor Club. Josh Holm capped off his round nicely by hitting the Farmers Union Longest Putt Contest on Hole 7. Tom Glandt hit the Closest Shot of the Day to the 150-yard marker and won a prize, sponsored by City Lights, on Hole 8. Carpet Connection sponsored the Long Putt of the Day on Hole 9, and it was won by Vern Aus as he continues to display his putting prowess on the season.
The July 31 crowd for Menâ€™s Day topped the previous record of the year as golfers sharpened their skills for the 40th Annual Gaylon Opdahl Tournament on Friday, August 1. Bank Forward sponsored the prize for Longest Putt on Hole 1, and it was won by Charlie Brandenberg.
Brandenberg continued his hot streak and added the prize on Hole 2 for Closest to the Pin, sponsored by Pizza Ranch. The Valley City Town and Country Club sponsored the Hole 3 prize, and it was won by John Sadek, who was inches away from recording a double eagle. Paurus won the prize on Hole 2 for Closest Second Shot, sponsored by Taco Johnâ€™s.
The Longest Putt of the Day on Hole 5 was recorded by Jack Egan and sponsored by Sabirâ€™s. Bergan hit the Closest to the Pin on Hole 6 and was rewarded with a prize from the Labor Club. Farmers Union Insurance sponsored the Longest Putt on Hole 7, which was claimed by Jacobson. The Closest to the 150-Yard Marker contest, sponsored by City Lights, was won by Bob Bergan.
