Meland Headed to NAIA Nationals

(VCSU Athletics) Viking sophomore Jessica Meland, who qualified for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Track and Field National Championships with her school-record Hammer Throw of 50.29 meters (164 feet, 11 inches) at April 18’s Northern State Invite, will compete in a field of 27 May 22-23 in Gulf Shores, Ala.

Valley City State sophomore Jessica Meland will compete in the Hammer Throw at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, May 22-24 in Gulf Shores, Ala.

Meland, of Harvey, N.D., qualified with a school-record throw of 50.29 meters (164 feet, 11 inches), which put her 16th in a field of 27 National Championship throwers, at April 18’s Northern State Invitational in Aberdeen, S.D.

Women’s Hammer Throw is the first scheduled event at Nationals, kicking off the meet at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 22. Preliminaries and finals run back-to-back. Opening ceremonies are 2 p.m. Thursday.
