Marianne Phyllis Mangin was born in LaMoure, ND on June 9, 1937, to William and Clara Mangin as the youngest of five children. She grew to adulthood there, graduating from LaMoure High School where she enjoyed being a cheerleader. After High School, she worked a short time at the LaMoure Creamery in the office. She married John Baumgartner in a double wedding with her brother Jerry Mangin and his bride Deanna, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in LaMoure on December 27th, 1956. John and Marianne lived in Augusta, GA while John was in the army, where their first of 5 children was born. Following that they lived in LaMoure, ND, where their second child was born. They moved to Lisbon, ND, and lived there for eight years, where their last three children were born. John and Marianne moved to Valley City in August of 1967 where they remain to this day. Marianne worked as a cook for St. Catherine School while her children were young, and once they were older, took a job at the Sheyenne Care Center as a cook, until she retired in 1999. Following retirement, John and Marianne traveled to Arizona and Nevada each winter for a few months to spend time with family in warm country. Summers were spent in ND, where Marianne took up golf, which she thoroughly enjoyed and played often with her grandkids. Marianne also loved her trips to the casino with her family, and adored playing Skipbo with whoever she could con into a game. Through the years Marianne had a great love for family and was famous for her hugs, which everyone became accustomed to. You couldn’t visit her house, without hugs all around for everyone. Her children were her life, her grandchildren were a gift, and her great grand-children were a complete joy. She loved to be able to spend any time with them she could, and was fortunate to be able to do so quite often. While family was important to her, her love for the Lord was just as great. She prayed earnestly for everyone, no matter how small their trials…Marianne would be busy praying the rosary for them. She will be missed by all who knew her, but has left behind wonderful memories of the great wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law and friend she was to us all.
She is survived by her husband, John; her five children, Debra Carpenter, Greg (Kim) Baumgartner, Lisa (Wayne) Liebersbach, all of Valley City, ND, Brian (Barbara) Baumgartner of Litchville, ND and Arizona, and Todd (FongLin) Baumgartner of Arizona; her grandchildren, Josh (Cayla) Liebersbach, Jacob Liebersbach, Carli (Jason) Lang, Jillian Baumgartner, Samantha Baumgartner, Sara Baumgartner, Cally Carpenter, Chase Carpenter, Alysha Sabby, Shawn (Michelle) Patterson, and Carla Sanford; 13 Great Grandchildren; two brothers Jerry (Deanna Mangin) and Bill (LaVerne) Mangin; many brother and sister-in-laws and countless nieces and nephews.
Marianne was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister, brothers Dale Mangin and Robert Mangin, and many in-laws from both sides of the family.
