Luke Endorsement a Misunderstanding?

July 23, 2013

Aspen Exterior signs have popped out around Valley City since last month's storm which caused damage to many area roofs. Aspen Exteriors is a Minnesota-based company that repairs storm damage in order to make homes "whole" again.

A misunderstanding between Aspen Exteriors, a Minnesota-based construction doing storm damage repair in Valley City, and Valley City Commissioner Madeline Luke, may be just that – a misunderstanding.
During a recent meeting of the Valley City Commission, Luke told other commissioners and the gallery that she heard the company was using her name for endorsement purposes, and she did not give them permission to do so.
In fact, Luke said Friday, Aspen Exteriors did not do work for her, and the only time she has spoken to anyone from the company was to cancel an appointment and to tell them not to use her name.
"I never talked to the people myself," she said. "My husband might have," she added.
According to a representative from Aspen, the incident was a misunderstanding. Joseph Jelinek of Aspen Exteriors said while Luke did not meet with a salesperson in Valley City, she did have a phone conversation with a marketing firm that the company uses.
