LMM girls lose, boys win; BCN girls beat LaMoure

The Litchville-Marion/Montpelier basketball teams had mixed success in Tuesday’s games at Ellendale.
On one hand, the girls struggled to score and lost 65-28, but on the other, the boys picked up their second win of the year.
In the girls game, the Rebels were hurt by a bad first half in which they were outscored 39-7.
Ellendale led 20-2 after the first quarter and then scored 19 more in the second.
LMM had scored 21 points in the second half, including 13 in the third quarter.
Tasha Piehl and Tanys Ulmer led LMM with six points each and Brenna Rodin had five, including a 3-pointer.
Madilyn Bommersbach led Ellendale with 16 points, two 3-pointers. Teammate Mariah Gustafson had 10 points, and Brianna Vance had nine.
The Rebels are 1-2 this year.
In the boys game, the Rebels got behind the consistent scoring of Dylan Thompson to win 49-36.
Offensively, Thompson got off to a quick start finishing with seven of the Rebels’ 12 points in the first quarter. He kept it up all game and hit at least two two-pointers a quarter. He finished with 23 points on ten two-point field goals and a 3-3 performance at the free-throw line.
The Rebels, who held a 25-13 lead at halftime, kept Ellendale from scoring more then 9 points a quarter until the fourth, when the Cardinals scored 15.
Thompson’s 23 led LMM in scoring and teammate Garrett Van Asperen finished with 14, including all four of the team’s 3-pointers.
James Johnson led Ellendale with 11 points.
The win puts the team at 2-6 this year.
BCN girls beat LaMoure
Jenna Gullickson and Emily Albrecht each put up 15 points to lead Barnes County North to a 52-27 home win Tuesday against LaMoure.
The Bison got off to a good start, outscoring LaMoure 14-4 in the first half, fueled by four points each from Albrecht, Gullickson, and Lauren McMillan.
The Bison struggled in the second quarter and scored only four more points to take an 18-14 lead at halftime, but then outscored LaMoure 34-13 in the second half.
The Barnes County North boys lost 59-33 to LaMoure Tuesday but individual results were not available.
MV girls win fourth straight
The Maple Valley High School girls basketball team beat Griggs County 54-31 Tuesday at home.
It was the Raiders’ fourth straight win and ties the team’s total from last year.
Eighth grader Rylee Nudell led Maple Valley with 22 points in the win and junior Cassie Pautz had 10.
