Lillian Amelia (Smith) Twamley

Lillian passed away on Monday, July 29, 2013 at Sanford Health in Fargo, surrounded by her family, at the age of 83.
Lillian was born on July 26, 1930 in New Rockford, ND, the daughter of William H. and Carlyn “Tollie” (Harding) Smith Samberg. She attended New Rockford public schools. Lillian was united in marriage to Wayne R. Twamley on October 5, 1946 at the Methodist Church in Devils Lake, ND. They made their home in New Rockford, ND until 1959 when Wayne and Lillian moved to Valley City, ND and made their home until his passing in 1989.   Lillian moved to Fargo where she has since resided.
Lillian served as the president and past district commander of the VFW Auxiliary: she took great joy as a National Cootie Clown. She was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church in Valley City. In 1986, she was the representative for North Dakota in the National Statue of Liberty quilt contest. She and Wayne traveled to New York to accept the award. Lillian was a very talented artistic woman and made everything from doll clothes to wedding dresses. Mom took the scraps of our lives and wove them together creating masterpieces for her family and many others.
She was a den mother of 25 years to her boys and community. Lillian loved cooking, baking and traveling. She was an avid reader who loved history, especially American History, playing games and gathering around the table with family.  Mom had a strong, quiet and abiding faith and her grace will be missed by all.
Lillian is survived by her six children - Paula (Jim) Heinze of Fargo, ND; Billie (Verne) Poppen of Bristol, Ill; Timothy W. (Karen S.) Twamley of Bella Vista, AR; Dane Twamley of Jamestown, ND; Wade Twamley of Milwaukee, WI: and Shane Twamley of Santa Ana, CA; 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Ramona (Andrew) Koepplin of Fargo, ND; her sister- in- law, Mary June McLauglin of Fargo, ND; many other very dear relatives and friends.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; her parents; an infant brother, Billy Lee Smith; and two great-grandsons.
VISITATION will begin at 9 AM on Saturday, August 4th, 2013 at First Lutheran Church, 619 North Broadway, Fargo, ND 58102.  The funeral service is at 10 AM followed by a luncheon.
BURIAL will then follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Valley City, ND at 1:30 PM.
