Legion Post 60 Wins at Grafton, Casselton

Legion Post 60 fell in June 16’s doubleheader at LaMoure, 14-8 and 7-2.

LaMoure led 10-0 through two innings in the opener, and Post 60 scored a run in the third and fourth, two in the fifth and four in the seventh, but the rally fell short. Legion posted eight hits and two errors, LaMoure 16 hits and three errors.

Masyn Olsen and Austen Meyer picked up two hits and Jesse Johnson batted in three runs.

Post 60 led the finisher 2-0 through two innings before LaMoure scored four in the third and three in the fourth, on six total hits to Post 60’s four, for the comeback.

Olsen pitched four innings and struck out two.

Host Grafton took June 18’s opener, 11-2, and Post 60 won the closer, 6-4.

Grafton led 3-1 after an inning until Post 60 cut it to 3-2 in the fourth, but four Grafton runs in the fifth and sixth widened the gap in the early game. Grafton and Post 60 matched nine hits. Legion committed four errors.

Chase Carpenter picked up three hits, and Johnson drove in two runs. Carpenter also threw five innings for eight strikeouts, Meyer a frame for two strikeouts.

Post 60 trailed 2-1 through a pair of frames in the 6-4 win, but scored four runs in the third inning and another in the fifth. Grafton and Post 60 both put up six hits, Legion eight errors and Grafton four.

Johnson came away with three RBIs. Meyer pitched four innings for four strikeouts, Johnson an inning to strike out three.

Legion won 9-6 on June 24 at Casselton before the finisher was not completed with an 8-5 Casselton lead through four innings.

Post 60 tied 2-2 in game one’s third inning before three runs put Casselton up 5-4 through five. Legion scored two in the sixth and three in the seventh against Casselton’s run in the seventh to hold on for the win.

Post 60 stacked up 12 hits, Casselton nine. Legion committed a single error, Casselton four.

Ondracek’s three hits and three RBIs led Post 60. Ben Baasch laid down two hits to drive in a run. Johnson pitched 4.1 innings for six strikeouts, Berg 2.2 for three.

Casselton led the finisher 8-5 through four innings before the game ended up unfinished in the top of the fifth. Casselton led 4-1 through an inning, 5-3 after two, 8-2 after three and 8-5 through four. In that span, Ondracek drove in three runs on a hit. Meyer pitched 1.2 innings for three strikeouts, Spencer Meyer 1.1 frames to fan a batter, and Jake Miller a complete inning to set down two on strikes.

Post 60 fell 16-4 to Enderlin and 11-7 to LaMoure on Sunday at home in the Leevers Classic.

Enderlin led 2-0 after one, 2-1 through three, 6-2 through four, 11-4 through five and 16-4 through six. Legion and Enderlin matched nine hits as Enderlin posted a single error and Post 60 ended up with six.

Carpenter landed two hits against Enderlin as Baasch pitched three innings for four strikeouts. Berg worked two innings to fan three, Spencer Meyer one to strike out two.

Post 60 led LaMoure 1-0 after a frame, 4-2 through two and 5-2 through three before LaMoure led 7-6 after four. Post 60 tied it with a run in the fifth but LaMoure pulled away, 11-7, with four runs in the sixth. LaMoure landed 10 hits, Post 60 eight. LaMoure committed five errors, Legion seven.

Carpenter and Olsen matched two hits each as Carpenter drove home a run and Johnson batted in another.

Miller pitched 5.1 innings for eight strikeouts, Johnson 1.2 frames for three.

Legion Post 60 (2-7) heads to Devils Lake, N.D., on Wednesday. Devils Lake took June 12’s doubleheader in Valley City, 4-0 and 12-3.
