The Legacy Place Continues Growth

January 21, 2013

Heidi Harris/Times-Record Wendi Johnston, licensed practical nurse, left, and Gail Pederson, registered nurse, both recently started part-time at The Legacy Place in Valley City.

The Legacy Place, an assisted living facility in Valley City, has hired two part-time nurses as an effort to increase their nursing staff, business manager Cami Hendrickson said.

To accommodate for growth and better serve its residents, The Legacy Place, owned by Paul and Tanya Diegel, has reorganized staff internally and is seeking new staff.

Wendi Johnston, licensed practical nurse, is a recent graduate from Bismarck State College who had previously worked at the Anne Carlson Center in Jamestown.

Gail Pederson, registered nurse, has more than 20 years of nursing experience as nursing supervisor and emergency room nurse at Mercy Hospital and five years of experience in long-term care at the Sheyenne Care Center.

“I’m a certified holistic nurse, and certainly here, we are striving to care for the person, body, mind and spirit,” Pederson said.

The Legacy Place also hired a lead cook, Amber Havard.

The Legacy Place opened with 25 residents in March 2009. Over three years later, it has nearly doubled in residents and tripled in services — and it’s still continuing to grow.

The Legacy Place has kept up with the needs of its residents since opening its doors. As services were needed, Gerntholz said, it accommodated to those needs. The staff will continue to adapt to the changes in health care and residential need. It plans to grow its services, including implementing a new exercise program.

The company has also hired a full-time activities director, a new position for the facility.

Hendrickson who serves as the assisted living facility’s business office manager recently took on duties as the interim administrator as well, which was previously held by Tamie Gerntholtz.
