LaMoure County Theatre Presents The Apple Tree

Returning to their home venue this summer, the LaMoure County Summer Musical Theatre is producing The Apple Tree, a musical revue presenting three stories: The Diary of Adam and Eve, The Tiger or the Lady, and Passionella. Based on short stories by Mark Twain, Frank Stockton, and Jules Feiffer, this musical offers many opportunities for local talent, including Jane Anderson, Bob Muhs, and Michael Spiese, veteran performers who are returning to the LCSMT stage again this year.

Director Jenni Lou Russi is excited about the production which offers the actors opportunities to stretch their talents. “Not only does each actor play at least two roles in this production, but you’ll see the cast in the pit on more than one occasion! The actors will accompany one another with a variety of musical instruments, supporting memorable tunes from the musical, including the popular comic number, ‘It’s a Fish’.” Musical Director Renee Bowen joins Russi in the production team for this year’s summer musical.

Book, music, and lyrics were written by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, with additional material by Jerome Coopersmith. The Apple Tree first appeared on Broadway in 1966, and was revised on Broadway, starring Kristin Chenoweth, in 2005. “This musical appeals to a wide audience - across generations”, says Russi. “People will talk about these stories and remember these tunes long after they see our production.
