March 14, 2014

Maple Valley's Lady Raiders are your third-place Class Region 1 winners after Thursday's 49-43 triumph over District 2 rival Oak Grove at North Dakota College of Science in Wahpeton, N.D.

Oak Grove came right back to tie the game after trailing by 10 just after halftime, but Raider sophomore forward Rylee Nudell scored 14 points and junior center Megan Kasowski 13 of her own to help Maple Valley withstand the Grover gauntlet.

Grover junior forward Kirsten Bokinskie led her crew with 12 points.

Thursday night's win completes the three-game Maple Valley season sweep of Oak Grove: the Raiders won 51-41 at Oak Grove on Jan. 9, 50-41 in the District 2 Tournament semifinals at the Fargo Civic Center on March 1 and 49-43 at NDSCS on Thursday.

Maple Valley (8-0 District 2, 22-3 overall) brought a North Dakota Class B No. 4 rank into the District 2 Tournament after finishing the regular season 18-1 and claiming their third straight Barnes County Tournament.

They fell 58-52 in March 3's District 2 Tournament championship to Central Cass, beat North Sargent 41-34 in the Region 1 Quarterfinals, fell to Fairmount/Campbell/Tintah 37-33 on March 11 and completed the season in third place with Thursday's 49-43 win over Oak Grove.

Guard Abbie Tinjum, the only senior on the team, graduates this summer.
