Lady Hi-Liners Defend Osmon Fieldhouse on National Guard Night

January 29, 2014

(Jake McNeal/Times-Record) The Lady Hi-Liners wore special American-made camouflage North Dakota Army National Guard uniforms, presented by Staff Sgt. Heather Kuntz, that feature the American flag on the front above the heart and the National Guard logo on the back of the jerseys. The uniforms travel across North Dakota in boys’ and girls’ sets, the other of which the Hi-Liner boys will don against Eastern Dakota Conference rival Fargo South at the Hi-Liner Activities Center, Thursday, Feb. 27

Lady Hi-Liner basketball hosted Eastern Dakota Conference rival Wahpeton on North Dakota National Guard Night at Valley City State’s W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse, a site agreed upon with savvy scheduling adjustments, on Tuesday night and rode a strong second half to a 54-38 win.

“We rescheduled with Wahpeton to make the dates work,” Hi-Liner head coach Waylan Starr said. “VCSU has a bigger floor and a quality court, and it’s good for us because we’ll see neutral courts in the regional tourney. They contacted us about honoring the National Guard on Nov. 1, and the girls didn’t know until today. They were happy to show their appreciation, wore their uniforms in school and we bought the camouflage socks for them. My brother and my dad were in the service, and we’re showing respect to honor all those involved.”
