Kids Celebrate Halloween Early

October 29, 2012

Heidi Harris/Times-Record Abby Wilmes, of Valley City, participates in a duck pond carnival game at the Ruckus at the Rec Friday.

Area children got to wear their costumes early this year during the eighth annual Ruckus at the Rec that was held Friday evening at the Recreation Center gym in Valley City.

The event featured an evening of carnival games for all children ages pre-school through sixth grade. Parents and grandparents also joined their parents dressed in costume. Community and surrounding area businesses and organizations as well as interested individuals also assisted with the activities.

The event, hosted by Valley City Parks and Recreation, is “a free event safe for children to wear costumes and have fun,” said Diane Sommerfeld, employee of VCPR.

Games and prizes were provided by the VCPR office, Judy Karch, who was there with the Valley City Lions Club, said they were collecting used eyeglasses and hearing aids that will be recycled and distributed to people overseas in underdeveloped countries.

Karch said the kids were having a blast and — “everybody gets a prize.”
