Ken Doty, age 51, of Valley City, ND and formerly of New London area died Friday, November 9, 2012 at Valley City, ND. Funeral services are Wednesday 11:00 a.m. at United Lutheran Church in Lake Lillian with Rev. Art Wiese officiating. Visitation is Tuesday 5-8 p.m. at K-M Funeral Home in Lake Lillian and continues Wednesday at the church for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date at Crow River Lutheran Cemetery, rural Belgrade.
Kenneth John Doty was born February 8, 1961 at Glenwood, MN to Thomas and Darlene (Nagel) Doty. He grew up in the Spicer and New London area where he attended school. Ken married Carmen Melges and they lived at Spicer. They were later divorced and he has been with Jane Spaulding these past 27 years. Ken had worked as a farmer, doing dog training, and operated a game farm. Wrestling was a great passion whether watching his sons and grandsons or watching it on TV. Ken had coached wrestling for many years and was awarded the “Coach of the Year” by NYWA. He also enjoyed hunting, telling jokes or a good story, pulling pranks and giving nicknames to his family members.
Ken is survived by his wife, Jane Spaulding of Valley City, ND; his six children: Rachelle (Dennis) Jacobson of Lake Lillian, Nicholas Doty (special friend Toni Baumann) of Valley city, ND, Chassidy (Ross) Wittman of Lake Lillian, Nathaniel “George” Doty (special friend Britany Egge) of Bird Island, Tanner Doty (special friend Jessica Sorenson) of Westbrook, and Zachary Doty of Valley City, ND; his 12 grandchildren; his mother Darlene Piipke of Willmar; his grandmother Anita Doty of Willmar; his nine siblings: Lynnette (Kevin) Hodgeson of Belgrade, Jackie (Mark) Lindquist of New London, Scott (Lori) Doty of New London, Tommy Doty of New London, Dean Piipke (special friend Carol Teicher) of Hector, Carrie (Nathan) Herem of New London, Kimberly Hanson of Fessenden, ND, Blake (Kelly) Piipke of Willmar and Heidi (John) Feldman of Sunburg; and many nieces and nephews. Ken was preceded in death by his father.
